thePanel is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit group of young professionals, political staffers, and students focused on Canada's future in the world. Twice each year, thePanel convenes in Ottawa, holding fast-paced, interactive discussions amongst panellists on timely foreign policy-related topics. Harnessing social media and interactive, web-based applications, thePanel also draws on the experience and perspective of Canadians at home and abroad. thePanel events draw an influential audience of 200-300 people, including Members of Parliaments, senior officials, diplomats, executives, young professionals, academics and students. Past events include the Crisis in Syria (October 2013), Economic Diplomacy (June 2014) and the Global Arms Trade (May 2016).
For the first time ever, thePanel is seeking to recruit two Student Board Members to join the team during the 2016-17 academic year, with responsibility for event planning and student outreach. These volunteer positions will allow selected candidates to gain valuable work experience, develop networks, and gain exposure to pressing domestic and international policy and political issues.
Enthusiasm, a collaborative spirit and the ability to deliver on commitments are essential attributes for these positions. Potential tasks could include drafting promotional materials; researching topics and prospective panellists; assisting with venue logistics; supervising audiovisual equipment set up; or designing and implementing a social media strategy.
Student Board Members must commit to volunteering 20 hours in the two months prior to each event, as well as attending in-person evening Board meetings approximately once per month (higher frequency immediately before events).
Interested students should complete the below application form by September 9th, 2016. Selected candidates will be contacted for interviews shortly thereafter.
