No one will deny that the situation in Syria is dire. In July, the United Nations estimated that over 100,000 have died since the conflict began. Reports continue to mount on the use of torture and chemical weapons.
This raises the question: what role, if any, should Canada play in Syria's humanitarian crisis? From engaging actively in armed intervention to focusing efforts on facilitating political settlement, Canada faces a number of decisions relating to its involvement in the Syrian crisis. These decisions, and others, could have serious implications, not just for Canada but regional security and the international community.
